Selim Eskelin foundations scholarships 2024

Total amount of scolarships is 130 000 + 2 500 €.

The Selim Eskelin Foundation annually awards grants to students of the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts. The grants are primarily intended to support studies and are primarily aimed at those studying singing.

The scholarship board can make exceptions to the general rule at its discretion, but in those cases the question has been studies that indirectly support the art of singing at the Academy, for example lied pianists, accompanists and choir directors.

According to Selim Eskelin's will, "When distributing scholarships, especially those students who are children of needy members of the Suomen Kanttoriurkuriliitto ry, its predecessors or a similar Swedish-speaking organization are taken into account". However, this is not a decisive basis for receiving a grant.

The foundation has been handing out grants since 1974. Grants awarded have averaged 2 000 – 6 000 € per scholarship recipient.

Applicants are requested to write the application in foundations website www.selimeskelin.fi.

It is also possible to use the Foundation’s application form, which (PDF file) can be printed out from the Foundation’s web site. Scholarship applications written to paper should be sent to the postaddress c/o Ari Mäkelä, Mechelininkatu 44 A 18, 00250 Helsinki.

In addition to the normal scholarship distribution, a special grant of 2 500 €, based on Mauri Elovainio's testamentary donation, will be distributed for a project related to French vocal music or for the studies of a singing student from France at the Sibelius Academy.

The Mauri Elovainio scholarship is applied for using the same application form as other scholarships. The applicant can refer to M Elovainio's scholarship in the reasons for the application.
